Pirelli Calendar 2010 : Revolution on the Web

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 05:58 AM PDT

Pirelli is a diverse multinational company based in Milan, Italy involved in production of tyres and cables, which publishes trade calendar every year since 1964 except the 10 years (1974 - 1983) due to the world recession from the oil shock.

These calendars are famous the for the beautiful and nude models which features in the calendar.

Famous is actually not the right word to choose here as these calendars are one of those term/keyword which brings revolution on the web every year when it is released. The USP of this calendar is its limited availability as it is not sold and is only given as a corporate gift to a restricted number of important Pirelli customers and celebrity VIPs and none of the youngster, be it any part of the world do not want to miss the glimpse of this piece.

The latest version has beet shot by Terry Richardson, an American fashion photographer. He shot the latest calendar without any complicated and artificial fashion trends.

The setting has no showy backgrounds or schemes, in line with the photographer's simplicity and focus on the essential, says Richardson, "captures the moment - that's why I shoot without extra equipment and without assistants", he added.

Though the calendar is not sold, still it is all over the web and can be serached easily via any search engine on the web which exactly makes it The Hot Stuff on the web.

Epic Browser Powered by Mozilla : Features, Review & Download Link

Posted: 16 Jul 2010 08:03 PM PDT

A Bangalore based company Hidden Reflex has developed what it calls the world's first browser for Indians. Epic, as the browser is called, has social networking widgets, email clients and chat clients pre-installed.

It's Indian because it allows the user to type in 12 Indian languages including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bangla, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gurmukhi and even Sanskrit. It has over 1500 Indian themes and wallpapers. It also claims it has 1500- plus sidebar applications, in addition to the 10,000 or so Firefox applications that are already compatible since both Epic and Firefox are based on the same Mozilla open source platform.

Perhaps the developers also believe that Indian web users are a bunch of lazy mouse potatoes. Why else would you make all virus scanning automatic? But jokes apart, the look of the browser is pretty neat. It is quick to download and installs fairly without any hassle.

It has a clean look and although it claims it downloads web pages the fastest, our initial reaction was that it is as fast (or slow) as Firefox. ,Banner ads rendering on pages is a problem. For instance, the top banner ad never got displayed in the time we tested the browser. Which, come to think of it, is not really a bad thing because users can now ignore banner ads completely and concentrate on content. The site publishers may not be okay with that though.

But what is really impressive about the browser is that its email and chat and social media widgets open in a window on the left of the main browser window so that you can carry on with your work and keep an eye open for a chat message or a new email on the left. I thought it would be obtrusive, but it is not really. I quite like this feature.

Download the browser from http://www.epicbrowser.com/.

On the whole, Epic is a more than just a decent attempt — and although it is certainly not India's first indigenous browser, it looks to be the " country's" most impressive so far.

Fiat Launches New Diesel Version of Grande Punto

Posted: 16 Jul 2010 07:51 PM PDT

Fiat India on Friday launched the Grande Punto 90HP multijet, its latest diesel variant in the premium hatchback segment.

Equipped with a 1.3 - litre multijet engine, powered by a variable geometry turbocharger, the car will be India's most powerful diesel hatchback. Priced at Rs 6.79 lakh (ex - showroom price, Delhi), the car will compete directly with diesel variants of Hyundai i20, Maruti Swift and Tata Indica.

" The launch of Grande Punto 90 HP multijet is aimed at consolidating our position within the performance diesel segment, which has been relatively untapped until now," said Rajeev Kapoor, chief executive officer (CEO) and president, Fiat India.

The version is equipped with a 1.3 - litre multijet engine power of 93 PS and torque of 209 NM. The company claims the variant offers a mileage of 20 km per litre. This car comes with dual stage airbags, automatic climate control, anti - lock braking system (ABS) and alloy wheels.

" The competition is stiff, we agree. But the car has many distinguishing feature like most powerful diesel engine and fuel efficiency. Moreover, this hatchback can also be personalised," Kapoor added.

" In fact, the Indian car market is getting very interesting and happening, and customers are spoilt for choice. With such stiff competition customers will get a cost advantage and there is hardly any scope for price hike, even when the input cost is going up," Kapoor said.

The car offers customers a choice of personalisation through a special accessory pack that includes a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust tip, body decals, sporty aluminium pedals, leather seat covers and Punto branded door sill.

According to S. Krishnan, senior vice - president, commercial passenger vehicles of Tata Motors, which is a 50 per cent partner in Fiat India, " The diesel car market is expected to grow at a much faster pace, which will suddenly see lots of technical innovation in a diesel engine. Moreover, it is more fuel and cost efficient." The company is also developing another small car for the Indian market, which will be launched by 2012. Also, Fiat is planning to launch a new variant of its mid - sized sedan Linea by September as it aims to double sales during this fiscal to about 45,000 units.

Grande Punto, which was launched last year, is the third offering from the stable of Fiat after Linea and Palio.

Tere Bin Laden Movie Review, Story and Rating

Posted: 16 Jul 2010 07:42 PM PDT

It's a little amateurish, and that takes away a few points from Tere Bin Laden . To be fair, a satire attempt is a big deal for a newcomer director. So, kudos to Abhishek Sharma for trying.

Let's just go with the awful truth that not everyone can pull it off with the smarts which Kundan Shah showed when he gave us his pathbreaking debut feature Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro , definitely the best satire Bollywood's made in all these years.

Tere Bin Laden tries to be a cocky account of a Pakistani reporter, Ali Hassan (Ali Zafar), who wants to migrate to the US. But his visa request always gets rejected. Ali hits upon a weird idea to realise his dream one day when he comes across a timid poultry owner, Noora (Pradhuman Singh), who looks like Osama bin Laden.

Ali decides to produce a fake video with Noora posing as Osama, and sell it to a TV channel in India. The video gets made and Ali bags some quick cash by selling it to the channel, too.

The film tries drawing its satire quotient primarily from what happens next. The Americans send their team of secret agents, headed by a pompous officer named Ted Wood (the name almost seems like director Sharma's tribute to Tim Burton's brilliant satire biopic Ed Wood , starring Johnny Depp). A sociopolitical commentary is attempted as Ted and company, along with the Pakistani sleuths chase the fake Osama and try to bring him down.

Tere Bin Laden was a good idea.

Almost a decade after 9/ 11, when the trauma has somewhat dulled, this looks like the right time to analyse the man- made tragedy with farcical irreverence. What this film needed was a little more intelligence. It's one thing for a script to pretend it's silly (that's the hallmark of good satire in any case), but it's quite another to unfold a story that simply lacks depth.

The young cast could have done with better character sketches. Pradhuman as the fake bin Laden in particular tends to overdo his comic act, but then the guy hardly gets scope to do better.

Watch Inception for brilliant story - Check Review, Rating

Posted: 16 Jul 2010 07:37 PM PDT

Now here's a film with quality written all over it. Inception is directed by Christopher Nolan — he's the guy who gave us The Dark Knight , Memento , Insomnia and The Prestige . The posters also have Leo DiCaprio splattered all over. He's one actor who knows how to mix blockbuster fun with sensible cinema, much like apna Aamir Khan.

You went in hoping Inception wouldn't go wrong. It doesn't.

The film is billed as a sci- fi thriller. It works as a surreal dream, a top- rate crime caper, a superb action flick and a complex drama all at once. Clearly, Nolan's ambition was to create a devilishly intricate flick that pushes the limits on entertainment and teases your brain cells, way beyond what Memento did.

In that sense, Inception isn't a film that you can merely sit back and enjoy. It's a clever movie that engages you as a viewer all through its two - and half hour runtime.

This is the story of Dom Cobb, played by DiCaprio. He's a thief with a difference. Cobb can enter your mind in a dream state and steal vital secrets embedded in your sub conscience.

Cobb's talent makes him a star in a world where corporate espionage is fast gaining ground. Of course, since he's also wanted by the law all over the world, his job profile has taken a tragic toll on his personal life.

The plot- pusher unfolds by way of a very different job that comes Cobb's way. Along with a team of ' specialists', he has to pull off a reverse assignment.

Instead of stealing an idea, Cobb has to lead the team into a person's mind to plant an idea into the sub conscience.

Of course, the job will go wrong. And the twist, which the glitch brings in its wake as Cobb and company try to accomplish their mission, makes for a gripping finalé.

Leonardo DiCaprio's success as far as Inception goes lies more in selecting a smart flick and role than in executing it.

Seasoned ace that the actor is, he's terrific — no doubt about that. But more than the performance, Nolan's given Leo a role that will mark top-of-the line recall for his fan base over the years to come. For the sheer unconventional swing it is soaked in.

Rating - 4 / 5

Old Spice Man is hit on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter

Posted: 16 Jul 2010 07:26 PM PDT

Journalists would die rather than endorse a brand in print (well, at least, most of us would), but to not mention Old Spice this week would be to commit a cardinal sin. The Procter & Gamble men's toiletries brand rewrote every rule of marketing there ever was to create a buzz for a product as mundane as a shower gel.

The concept was so simple it left the geniuses in the advertising world wondering why they did not think of it earlier. But then that's what simple products do — Velcro and Post- It notes, for instance. What Old Spice did in two days, speculates a Forbes magazine blog writer, could become case studies in the world's top management schools and indeed corporate boardrooms.

Here is what Old Spice's advertising agency Wieden+ Kennedy did. They took their already popular Old Spice commercial starring actor and former American football star Isaiah Mustafa and made it interactive in real time by merging three video and social networks — YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

Every single comment that viewers and readers put on the original commercial was remade into another video with Mustafa responding to fan messages.

One such fan asked the Old Spice Man if he would help him ask his girlfriend to marry him.

In the next one hour or so, Wieden+ Kennedy shot, edited and broadcast a request from Mustafa asking the girl to accept his proposal. She did, and the Web went into raptures.

Mustafa's videos became a rage and before long some of the best known personalities on social media including Twitter CTO Biz Stone, were endorsing the Old Spice Man.

Tech blog TechCrunch reported that Google CFO Patrick Pichette was "impressed" with the campaign.

Stone said, "We are cracking up following @ OldSpice and watching these hilarious responses on YouTube." When the YouTube blitz reached 140 videos, Stone tweeted again: "Wow, @ oldspice channel has exactly 140 YouTube videos. Does that smell like coincidence or something more powerful?" The 140 reference being, of course, the character limit on Twitter.

In less than 24 hours, the Old Spice page on Twitter had reached 71,000 followers, a rate of growth seen only by true blue celebrities such as talk show host Oprah Winfrey, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and basketball superstar LeBron James.

To keep up the celebrity quotient, most of the personal replies were to well known people. Some of them included former US President Bill Clinton's political adviser and TV show host George Stephanopoulos, actor and singer Alyssa Milano, and the grandest name of all, actor Demi Moore, who had tweeted, "Old Spice Guy, I want a special video response now". Who could say no to Demi Moore? By the way, the Demi Moore response video also took only an hour to be written, shot, edited and uploaded on YouTube.

But how was it done? After all it is not easy to script really funny videos however short they may be (and quite frankly, the shorter the tougher), and then shoot, edit and upload it in less than an hour.

Jessi Slaughter 'Kerligirl13' encyclopedia dramatica

Posted: 16 Jul 2010 07:55 AM PDT

A Term Kerligirl13 has been a rage through out the day on the web today and these kind of things do not happen very often that some user name of some chat room is earched by mass on web.

Kerligirl13 is the online name of teen girl name Jessica Leonhardt who is known as Jessi Slaughter, must be between 9 - 14 years old however using her web cam to get this infamous popularity with her foul month.

She has been given this name as she talks ill about people who hate her and by ill we mean very ill being a girl of 10 years old.

In a home made video, she trolls her haters by saying that she's better than you, has more friends, and that you should get aids, then put a glock in their mouth and make a brain slushie.

While most people agree that she is not anyone's personal army, tumblr took action and trolled the comments of said video. And thus, the Epic of Jessie Slaughter was born.

This is a story of its own kind of hate and story and more of it can be read on the Encyclopedia Dramatica.
