India finally gets its Rupee Symbol (Picture, Photo)

Indian has finally got its symbol like other global currencies some of which are Dollar ($) or the Euro (€) or the Pound (£).

This symbol has been designed by an IIT-ian Uday Kumar from IIT Bombay where he was doing research at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC).

"My design is based on the Tricolour, with two lines at the top and white space in between. I wanted the symbol for the Rupee to represent the Indian flag. It is a perfect blend of Indian and Roman letters: a capital 'R', and Devanagari 'ra', which represent rupiya, to appeal to international and Indian audiences.", Kumar Said.

After this decision, arrangements have to be made to make its presence felt which means manufacturers would have to make the relevant changes in their products like Keypad of Mobile Phones, Keyboard of Computers. These products would also feature the rupee symbol in India as it does for British Pound and US Dollar.

Nissan Micra launched - features, specifications & price in India revealed

Japanese car - maker Nissan on Wednesday launched its much- awaited premium small car Nissan Micra in India, marking its foray into the premium small car segment.

In India, Nissan Micra will be available in three standard variants of XE (entry level), XL (mid) and XV (top) priced at Rs 3.98 lakh, Rs 4,69,500 and Rs 528,800, respectively.

Available in two interior colour schemes: black and griege, the Nissan Micra will be introduced in a range of six colours — sunlight orange, brick red, Pacific blue, storm white, blade silver and onyx black.

It is powered by a 1.2- litre, 3- cylinder petrol engine. It offers features, such as intelligent key plus immobiliser, push- button engine startstop system and electric foldable mirror.

Another feature is the intelligent multi- display meter, which gives the driver real time information on fuel economy, cruising range and outside temperature. In addition, the driver power windows are fitted with a ' onetouch up/ down' feature along with a pinch guard.

" The Nissan Micra is the right product at the right time that will offer customers a good means of urban mobility with a complete package of performance, features, safety and comfort," Kiminobu Tokuyama, chief executive officer ( CEO) and managing director ( MD), Nissan Motor India, said.

" We expect Micra with its latent advantage and its unique features to do well in the Indian market and carve a niche of its own compared to other competitive models in this segment," Tokuyama added.

Nissan Micra will heat up the small car segment in India that accounts for more than 70 per cent of the total car sales in the country.

This hatchback is set to compete with Maruti Suzuki's Swift and new the WagonR, which is the market leader in the segment.

However, Micra will have other rivals too like Hyundai i10 and i20, Volkswagen's Polo, Ford's Figo, Fiat's Grande Punto and General Motors' Chevrolet Beat, all priced broadly in the same range.

Being the fastest growing segment, it has already attracted the interest of brands like Volkswagen, Ford and Chevrolet, which are fighting for market share.

Did Akshay Kumar meet R K Laxman to promote his new film Khatta Meetha ?

Soon after Akshay Kumar visited an ailing R. K. Laxman at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, a section of the Twitterati lambasted him for 'using' the cartoonist to promote his film Khatta Meetha . In the film, Akshay's character Sachin Tichkule is reportedly based on Laxman's famous 'common man'. As soon as a section of the media and the Twitter brigade criticised Akshay's timing to visit Laxman, he shot back saying he was there on the invitation of the cartoonist's family. But Laxman's family did not confirm inviting Akshay.

While Akshay's move to drop in at Laxman's hospital room is increasingly being seen as a promotional gimmick for Khatta Meetha that has left a bitter aftertaste, it has also sent the film's cast and crew in a defensive mode.

" The film is a remake of a Malayalam hit, Vellanakalude Naadu, starring Mohanlal that was made in 1988," said Akshay's costar Trisha, who makes her Bollywood debut with this film.

Trisha's claim is in contrast to Akshay's earlier statement that Sachin Tichkule is based on Laxman's common man.

In the meantime, those who have criticised Akshay's move point out that it is fine for him to visit the creator of his character's 'inspiration' in hospital. But the actor or others in the film's crew have hardly mentioned Laxman's name during the film's pre-release publicity.

What's even more appaling is a report that appeared in a daily stating that Laxman didn't even know who Sachin Tichkule is, nor did he recognise Akshay Kumar when the actor visited him. In fact, the cartoonist is in frail condition, unable to speak or move.

The Twitter war over Akshay's visit, and the hint that this could just be a publicity stunt, broke out when film journalist Rajeev Masand wrote this about Akshay: "Need innovative ideas to promote films in competitive times. But Akshay Kumar grinning like a jackass at Laxman's hospital bed is a new low."

The comment elicited a furious reaction from Amitabh Bachchan, who pointed out that had Akshay called Masand a jackass, most in the journalistic fraternity would have been baying for the actor's blood.

"Ever thought if the reverse were to be done... would your fraternity have spared Akshay if he were to address you as one?" Bachchan tweeted.

Masand's reaction to Bachchan's comment has been sharp: " Don't remember your (Bachchan) fraternity pulling you up for the attack on photographers by security outside your house during Abhishek's wedding.

Or when Abhishek 'allegedly' bashed up a photographer on a film set. But your concern sir, is the use of the term 'jackass'." One showbiz personality who seems to agree with the journalist is Nikhil Chinappa. " U r absolutely ryt... He is a jackass, bloody idiot Akshay (sic)," Nikhil tweeted.

All of it is of course garnering plenty of free publicity for the film.

Javier Bardem an Academy Award winner for the supporting actor in No Country for Old Men dating Cruz since 2007, got engaged to her in October, 2009.


Penelope Cruz before this has dated Hollywood star Tom Cruise following his split from his first wife Nicole Kidman, and also Matthew McConaughley for two-years.
