Rebecca Gayheart, Eric Dane win settlement over sex tape posted on Gawker Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:50 AM PDT Actress Rebecca Gayheart and her husband Eric Dane have won a low-six figure settlement from Gawker Media for posting a their homemade sex tape online. The "McSteamy" tape had been published on Gawker's Defamer blog last year and it shows Dane, 37, nude in a hot tub with wife Gayheart, 38, and friend Kari Ann Peniche. The couple filed a 1 million dollar copyright infringement lawsuit against Gawker in September, arguing the media Web site didn't have permission to publish their private sex tape. The six-figure settlement also orders Gawker to remove any traces of the sex tape from its Web sites. The video has been viewed more than 4 million times. "Although we are confident that our use of the video on Gawker was protected fair use – because the posts already had been available to our readers for nearly a year, and because we already had won an important decision from the court striking large parts of the plaintiffs' damages claims – we agreed to remove the posts as part of a global settlement to avoid the burden of further litigation," the New York Daily News quoted Gawker chief operating officer Gaby Darbyshire as saying in a statement. |
Hindus warmly welcome Julia Roberts to Hinduism Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:13 AM PDT Hindus have extended warm welcome to Oscar winner Hollywood star Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) into the Hindu fold. September issue of women's fashion magazine Elle, on which Roberts, 42, is the cover girl, reportedly says: The entire Roberts-Moder family, she reveals, goes to temple together to “chant and pray and celebrate. I”m definitely a practicing Hindu,” says Roberts, who grew up with a Catholic mother and Baptist father. And since in Hindu cosmology souls can be reincarnated in other bodies, where does she see herself in the next life? “Golly, I”ve been so spoiled with my friends and family in this life,” she says. “Next time I want to be just something quiet and supporting.” Noted Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, heartily welcomed Roberts into Hinduism. She would appreciate rich, diverse and long tradition of Hindu philosophy; and its interpretation of the nature of reality, he added. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that if Roberts needed any help in deeper Hinduism exploration, he or other Hindu scholars would be glad to assist. Rajan Zed suggested Roberts to realize the Self. Ancient Hindu scripture Katha Upanishad points out that when wise realize the Self, they go beyond sorrow. Self is supreme and those who meditate on Self are freed from the cycle of birth and death. When one realizes Self, there is nothing else to be known. According to reports, Roberts has been interested in yoga for quite some time. She was in Haryana (India) in September last to shoot "Eat, Pray, Love" in an ashram (retreat). In January 2009, she sported a "bindi" (vermillion mark on forehead) during her trip to India when she also visited Taj Mahal with husband Danny Moder. She has a production company called "Red Om Films", and "Om" in Hinduism is the mystical syllable containing the universe. Roberts lead "Eat, Pray, Love" (Ryan Murphy) is releasing in USA and Canada on August 13. Julia Fiona Roberts, one of the most successful Hollywood actresses besides a producer and fashion model, has won best actress Oscar for "Erin Brockovich" and earned Oscar nominations for "Pretty Woman" and "Steel Magnolias". Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. ( |
Mark Wahlberg regrets dedicating 1992 memoir ‘Marky Mark’ to his penis Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:11 AM PDT Mark Wahlberg has admitted that he regrets writing his 1992 memoir, 'Marky Mark,' and dedicating it to his manhood. Wahlberg said that he thought his 1992 memoir would be funny, but it didn't happen so. “I thought it would be funny,” the New York Post quoted him as telling Time”s Belinda Luscombe during the magazine”s Live 10 Questions panel. When Luscombe asked if his penis was grateful, the actor fired back, “That is the one question I won”t answer.” But asked if any musician could convince former rapper Wahlberg to “lay down a rap track with them,” he responded, “If Justin Bieber asks me, I”ll say yes. Only because my daughter loves him.” |
Madge under fire over ‘provocative’ teen fashion show Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:09 AM PDT Madonna has been slammed for her new 'provocative' fashion range for teens, with some accusing her of 'sexualising' teenage girls. The pop queen released images to launch the collection Material Girl, which she designed with daughter Lourdes, 13. But campaigners labelled it "inappropriate", saying that Madonna was trying to relive her youth through her daughter. One of the shots shows Gossip Girl TV star Taylor Momsen, 17, tangled up in chains with bleached hair and heavy make-up. Another shows her in a mini-skirt, dark nail polish and biker boots. Another has her in a low-cut dress and fishnet tights. "It is not so much the clothes that are the problem, it is the poses that are worrying," The Daily Star quoted psychologist Jo Hemmings as saying. "You could dress a young girl in a bin bag and make her pose like that and it would still be as provocative," Hemmings added. Another campaigner added that sexualisation of girls is even linked to eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression. |
Daniel Radcliffe ‘dating Harry Potter producer’s stepdaughter’ Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:08 AM PDT Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is said to be dating the wizard series' producer David Heyman's stepdaughter. The English actor was spotted with 19-year-old Olive Uniacke several times in the recent past. The pair partied in Russia recently to celebrate Radcliffe's 21st birthday on 23 July 2010 and were also seen looking close at a cricket match in London, reports The Daily Star. The couple, who have been friends since the Harry Potter series started in 2001, are secretly dating, according to The Daily Mail. "Olive and Dan have known each other a long time, ever since the Harry Potter films started. They were close a few years ago but the relationship fizzled out then. Even so, they have always remained friends. And in the last few months they have grown closer again," a source said. "Olive has money in her own right so is certainly not a gold-digger. Olive is a lovely young lady – and she and Dan have been close for a long time. She was always in and out of his dressing room during filming and she has always been really protective over him," the source added. |
Jennifer Aniston admits she”s often the butt of jokes Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:06 AM PDT American actress Jennifer Aniston has admitted that people often laugh at her. "People laugh at me. Sometimes I know why, and sometimes I don't," Aniston told the September issue of Harper's Bazaar. "But I can pretty much find humor in anything. That is a necessary part of life. I don't want to say laughter is healing, because it sounds corny, but it's a release," the 41-year-old actress added. Aniston has, meanwhile, compared herself to Barbra Streisand. Aniston has channeled 68-year-old Barbra Streisand's iconic poses from 'Funny Girl' and 'What's Up, Doc?' in Harper's Bazaar magazine. "Barbra and I are people who have been put in the spotlight, for better or for worse, and you just keep riding, and you keep overcoming," Us Magazine quoted Aniston as saying. "Barbra inspires me because there isn't anything she hasn't done that she wanted to do, especially as a female in the time when her generation was prime. She”s a true renaissance woman. I had a long conversation with Barbra about directing because I directed a short a couple years ago, and if I don't do it again soon, I'm going to burst out of my skin. And we also love interior design," she added. |
Courtney Love planning to make New York permanent home Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:02 AM PDT Courtney Love has expressed her desire to permanently settle down in West Village. At Russell Simmons” Argyleculture fashion line launch at Ampersand Studios on W. 36th St., she said that she”s looking to lease – and eventually buy – an apartment in the pricey precinct. The Hole front woman has been living at SoHo”s Mercer Hotel for the last year. “I want to live in the West Village. Only the West Village,” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying. Love says that her fragile financial situation means she”ll have to lease before she buys. Over the last year or so, Love has been battling back from a number of financial setbacks. For instance, the rock grrrl, who claims she”s the victim of identity theft, was sued by American Express for more than 350,000 dollars she allegedly owed the charge-card company. Love says she has “four more months until my credit is repaired.” As a result, she says, “I don”t have a credit card. I use a debit card.” But, she adds, her “CPA, who I share with Oliver Stone,” is “fixing” her predicament. Then again, she admits, “I”ve spent so much money on the hotel,” which is owned by her beau-for-a-bit Andre Balazs, “I could have bought a house.” |

Katy Perry’s record label in legal soup Posted: 05 Aug 2010 03:55 AM PDT Rep for Beach Boys has threatened to take legal action against Katy Perry for including their classic line “I wish they all could be California Girls,” in her song “California Gurls.” Rondor Music has fired off a letter to Perry”s label, Capitol Records, demanding Mike Love and Brian Wilson – who penned the 1965 classic “California Girls” – be given a writing credit on Perry”s hit summer song, as well as royalties. “Rondor Music has sent a letter to Capitol on behalf of Mike Love and Brian Wilson, saying Katy has cribbed one of the most famous lyrics in history, so Love and Wilson should be entitled to a writing credit and a portion of the royalties,” the New York Post quoted a record industry source as telling Page Six. The legendary line has been uttered by Snoop Dogg at the very end of Perry”s track, which has sold more than 3 million copies, making it the anthem of the summer. Although sources told that Wilson and Love asked Rondor to take action, reps for both musicians claimed it was Rondor”s idea. Wilson”s rep said, “Rondor owns the track and called Brian and Mike, saying they were going to complain. Brian likes Katy”s record and doesn”t know where the situation stands.” Love”s rep said, “Mike and Brian wrote the song . . . but any legal action is up to Rondor.” Rondor declined to comment. |
Dennis Hopper’s wife ‘refusing to vacate home” Posted: 05 Aug 2010 03:50 AM PDT Late Dennis Hopper's wife Victoria Duffy is allegedly refusing to vacate his Californian home. Now, the executors of his estate have filed legal papers in a bid to remove Duffy from the property. The Hollywood legend passed away in May (10) after losing his battle with prostate cancer, and was embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with Duffy at the time of his death, reports the Daily Express. Representatives for Hopper”s estate recently announced plans to sell off his sprawling mansion in Venice, California, but new legal documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court allege Duffy is staying in the house without permission. The papers claim Duffy is “wrongfully possessing and withholding… control” of the multi-million dollar compound even though she was offered a different home in Brentwood, California, reports TMZ.com. The estate executors also claim they need to sell the Venice property to help pay off Hopper”s debts. |
