Morrissey blasts Queen’s Guards’ fur hat Posted: 04 Aug 2010 05:08 AM PDT Singer Steven Patrick Morrissey has blasted the Queen's Guard soldiers for wearing bearskin hats. The guardsmen who stand to attention outside Buckingham Palace in London attract millions of tourists every year with their iconic red jackets and black fur headwear. But Morrissey, 51, has blasted them as being "absurd" hats, and insisted their use "reflects the human spirit at its lowest". "In the humanised world, of course, hats are not worth killing for," the Daily Star quoted him as writing in an open letter to The Times – signed "Morrissey, Singer, (from) Cheshire". "Yes, animal rights move different people differently, and there are even those who think that animals simply have no right to be, but there is no sanity in making life difficult on purpose for the Canadian brown bear, especially for Guards hats that look absurd in the first place, and which can easily be replaced by faux versions (thanks to the visionary Stella McCartney) with no death involved. "It is difficult not to look to the Queen herself – after all, they are her Guards, and she must surely be aware of the horrific process utilised to supply real bearskins for her Guards. The mere sight of each bearskin hat must surely jab at the Queen's heart… "There is no clever distinction in trapping and skinning bears for petty considerations based on vanity. "Concern for all beings – human or animal – is a kindness and a goodness that springs from somewhere much deeper than Royal duty, and like it or not, the Guards wearing real fur reflects the human spirit at its lowest," he stated. |

‘Inferno’ producers deny sacking LiLo Posted: 04 Aug 2010 04:59 AM PDT Producers of American singer/actress Lindsay Lohan's upcoming film based on porn star Linda Lovelace have denied reports that they have sacked her. It was reported that the producers had began auditioning other actresses for the lead role but they denied the rumours insisting that the stories are 'completely unfounded and untrue'. The 'Mean Girls' star had landed the part of the troubled porn icon in upcoming film Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story, but her role in the production was thrown into jeopardy when she was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating her probation. The film's director Matthew Wilder has pledged to support Lohan, insisting that the project will be put on hold until she is available, but his promise has failed to prevent rumours of a recast. It was reported that movie bosses got tired of waiting for Lohan, who was released from jail on 02 August, 2010 and will spend the next 90 days in a rehab clinic, but Wilder and producer Chris Hanley reufused such claims. "The producers and director of Inferno, the story of Linda Lovelace, have been aware of certain media articles indicating there had been some alternative actors considered for the Lovelace role other than Lindsay Lohan," a statement, released to E! Online said. "These stories are completely unfounded and untrue. The current production schedule, which works around Lohan's current court obligations, has a start of photography in November of this year." The statement added, reports The Daily Star. "The creative team behind Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story wishes to express our renewed support for Lindsay Lohan. We never considered recasting Inferno, and never would recast it. There is no actor more ideally suited to this role than Lindsay, and we are content to start production after she finishes what the court mandated," it further said. |

Roger Moore pays tribute to Tom Mankiewicz Posted: 04 Aug 2010 04:57 AM PDT Bond legend Roger Moore has paid tribute to Hollywood screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz, calling him a wonderful man and a great friend. Mankiewicz, the screenwriter for several Bond flicks, died aged 68 at his home in Los Angeles on 30 July 2010 after a brief illness. Moore said that the tragedy came as a huge shock for him. He wrote the screenplay for many of Moore's Bond films including 1974's The Man with the Golden Gun and his debut as the superspy in Live and Let Die, which led to close friendship between the two, reports The Daily Star. "Tom was a wonderful man, a brilliant writer and a great friend. His written lines were brilliant. My favourite is from The Man with the Golden Gun when Jimmy (Bond) points a gun at a gun-maker”s crotch – ”Speak now or forever hold your piece” he says. Sheer bl**dy brilliance. The news of his death was a huge shock to me. At 68 it was a tragedy." Moore said. "He was without doubt one of the most innovative, clever and inspirational writers of the Bond films. He and director Guy Hamilton would lock themselves away working out 'snake pit' scenarios for 007, and then plan inventive escapes whilst leading the audience up one or two wrong turns. "Like in Live and Let Die when Jimmy Bond is stranded on an island in a lake full of alligators. Jimmy sees a boat nearby and switches on his magnetic watch to attract the metal oar rests – aha, say the audience, that”s how he does it. But then we see the boat is tethered. Aha, says Tom! Think again, dear audience," he added. |

Female producers defend Casey Affleck in sexual harassment suit Posted: 04 Aug 2010 04:01 AM PDT Casey Affleck”s female producers have come to his defence in his battle with two women who claim they were sexually harassed while working on a documentary with him. Cinematographer Magdalena Gorka is suing Ben Affleck's brother for 2.5 million dollars, accusing him of getting into bed with her and fondling her while she slept in an apartment in New York. Producer Amanda White, suing for 2 million dollars, claims she encountered “uninvited and unwelcome sexual advances” while filming 'I”m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix'. She alleges she had to endure “an impromptu shoot in a Las Vegas hotel room filled with hookers and transvestites.” However, associate producer Nicole Acacio said: “I got to know both Amanda and Magdalena to some degree. I never saw anything out of the ordinary either on or off set, and certainly nothing like what they described in their suits," reports the New York Post. “I was in Las Vegas at that shoot, and I never saw anything like that happen. Casey”s wife and his children were in town with him. Casey is a great guy, and it”s clear that he”s a very warm, family-centric person. “The real Casey isn”t the one who was described in these suits. Nothing I”ve ever witnessed would lead me to think he could ever do anything like that," she added. A female editor on the movie, on conditions of anonymity, added: “These lawsuits are contrary to everything that I personally know about Casey.” |
